CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - MIT opened the 2005 slate with a 12-5 victory over Gordon College at Jack Barry Field, Wednesday night. Junior midfielder Deanna Lentz dominated the contest, scoring six goals for the Engineers, including five in the first half.

Freshman Laura Watson scored MIT's first goal of the season just four minutes into the game. Although Gordon quickly responded with a strike of its own, Watson and Lentz led an offensive assault that resulted in eight straight goals for the Cardinal and Gray.

Tech opened the second half with a commanding 9-2 lead, but would stretch its advantage to a game-high eight goals with Lentz's sixth tally of the tilt at the 7:47 mark. Gordon scored three times in the second half to close the gap, but last year's leading scorer, Kelsey Presson, finished on a free position shot to cement the win for the Engineers with 20 minutes still on the clock.

Watson finished her first collegiate game with three goals, while fellow rookie Kaitlin Kamrowski scored twice. Sophomore Hee Jay Kang made 11 saves in the cage to pick up the win for MIT.
