CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – MIT's women's soccer team received the top spot in the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) preseason coaches poll, as announced on Monday.
Last season, the Engineers earned a share of the regular season NEWMAC crown with Wheaton College and finished 13-2-6 overall, including 8-1-1 in conference play. MIT also appeared in the NCAA tournament for the third consecutive season.
MIT received six first place votes, while Springfield College – picked to finish second – collected four votes and Wheaton earned one. Babson College was selected to finish fourth, while Wellesley College rounded out the top five.
Tech's 2014 season commences this Friday, August 29 on the road against Brandeis University at 6:00 p.m. MIT will return home the following day to host RPI with kickoff scheduled for 4:00 p.m. at Roberts Fields at Steinbrenner Stadium.
