Women’s Soccer Selected To Host NCAA Regional This Weekend

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. (November 6) – For the second time in four years and for the second time in program history, MIT will be the host site for one of 16 NCAA Division III Women's Soccer Championship regionals as announced on Monday afternoon. Scheduled for November 11-12, the nationally-ranked Engineers will welcome Castleton University, Middlebury College and Western Connecticut State University.

Game Schedule: 

MIT vs. Castleton University – Saturday, November 11 at 11:00 a.m.
Middlebury vs. Western Connecticut – Saturday, November 11 at 1:30 p.m.
Teams Who Advance to Round Two – Sunday, November 12 at 1:00 p.m.

MIT earned the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference's (NEWMAC) automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament and will be making its seventh appearance in the national bracket as the Engineers will take on the Spartans of Castleton University in the opening round. Saturday's match between MIT and Castleton will be the first ever between the two programs.

MIT (18-1-1) secured a spot in the national tournament after defeating Springfield College in the NEWMAC Championship match yesterday afternoon by a 2-0 score. The Engineers are in the midst of their best season in program history as they have set the single season records for wins (18), goals (69), assists (59) and points (197) this fall.

Castleton (11-7-2) earned the North Atlantic Conference's (NAC) automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament with a 1-0 double overtime win over Husson University, while Middlebury College (11-3-2) was an at-large selection after falling to Hamilton College in the New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) Tournament quarterfinals and Western Connecticut State University (17-1-2) earned the Little East Conference's (LEC) automatic bid with 2-1 double overtime win against in state rival Eastern Connecticut State University.
