Westwood, Mass. (May 2) – Eight members from the No. 21 MIT softball team have been named to the 2019 New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Academic All-Conference Team, as announced by the league office this afternoon. The Engineers ranked second in the conference with eighth selections which was only behind Springfield College which had nine honorees.
Senior Amber VanHemel (Coconut Creek, Fla.) as well as juniors Devon Goetz (Rockville, Md.) and Sierra Rosenzweig (Anchorage, Alaska) earned NEWMAC Academic All-Conference honors for the second time in their careers, while seniors Erika Anderson (Carlsbad, Calif.) and Ravenne Nasser (Methuen, Mass.) as well as junior Phoebe Li (Morganville, N.J.) and sophomore Colleen Campbell (Snoqualmie, Wash.) were placed on the team for the first time this season.
To be eligible, a student-athlete must have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.5/4.0 scale or 4.35/5.0 scale after the 2018 fall semester, achieved second year academic status at her institution, and been a member of the varsity team for the entire season.
No. 21 MIT (26-8-1, 15-2-1 NEWMAC), after winning its first game of the NEWMAC Tournament last night, will travel to top-seeded WPI for a winner's bracket game against host WPI tomorrow at 4:00 pm.
