MIT Women's Diving Competes at Regionals

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. - Four members of the MIT women's diving team traveled to Springfield College for the 2013 NCAA Division III Diving Regional Championships that took place from March 1-2. The Pride welcomed 45 divers from across the region to compete for a spot in the upcoming NCAA Championship that will be held in Shenandoah, Texas from March 20-23. Out of the 45 divers this weekend, nine women and eight men advanced, with the top finisher in each event automatically qualifying.

On Friday afternoon, the Engineers competed on the one-meter board with 24 other female athletes. Junior Jessica Wass (Bismarck, N.D.) finished highest for MIT, coming in 23rd with a score of 361.75. Senior Elise Stave (Chapel Hill, N.C.) came in directly behind her in 24th with a 359.35, junior Mia Stevens (Lakewood, N.Y.) was 25th with a score of 349.95 and freshman Grace Connors (Bronxville, N.Y.) finished in 27th place with a 298.00. Springfield's Jen Thompson came in first with a 470.30.

On Saturday, 26 female divers competed on the three-meter board. Stevens finished in 21st place with a score of 370.20, with Connors finishing in 22nd with 265.55 and Stave was 24th with a 347.90. Thompson was victorious in this event as well with a score of 508.00.

The men's and women's swimming and diving team will send 27 athletes to the NCAA Championship in Shenandoah, the most the program has ever sent before.
