Hannah Mahaffey and Deborah Wen Earn NEWMAC Athlete of the Week Accolades

Westwood, Mass. (January 29) – MIT women's swimming diving freshman Hannah Mahaffey (Lawrenceville, Ga.) and classmate Deborah Wen (Honolulu, Hawaii) have been named as the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Swimmer and Diver of the Week, respectively, when the league announced its selections on Monday afternoon.

Mahaffey and Wen had outstanding meets on Friday night against Division I Boston College. Mahaffey, who earned her first career NEWMAC Swimmer of the Week award this week, won three individual events including the 200-free in 1:56.98, the 200-back in 2:08.33 and the 200-IM in 2:11.29 which accounted for 27 of MIT's 137 points.

In the diving well, Wen posted two NCAA Division III Diving Regional qualifying scores as she took first place on the 3-meter board with 273.60 points and finished second on the 1-meter board with a score of 259.72. For Wen, this marks the second time this season she has been named as the NEWMAC Diver of the Week.

MIT will compete in its final dual meet of the season this Saturday, February 3 as the No. 8 Engineers will host No. 10 Amherst College at 1:00 p.m. Prior to the meet, MIT will honor its two seniors for their contributions to the swimming and diving program over the past four years.
