The Lead: In the first-ever meeting between the two teams, Division I Yale University topped MIT in women's swimming and diving action by a final score of 196-81 as today marked the season opener for the Engineers.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

- MIT began the day with a third-place finish in the 200-medley relay as Laura Rosado (New Haven, Conn.)Sara Nicholas (Wilmette, Ill.)Jennifer Yu (Pearland, Texas) and Hannah Mahaffey (Lawrenceville, Ga.) clocked a time of 1:48.89.

- In the 100-back, Yu finished as the runner-up in 58.18 and was followed by Rosado in 58.90. Rosado also was the runner-up in the 200-back with a time of 2:05.65. 

- Nicholas went on to place third in the 100-breast in 1:06.81, while Mahaffey and Kailey Allen (Tacoma, Wash.) finished third and fourth in the 200-fly with times of 2:08.85 and 2:12.18, respectively.

- In the final individual swimming event, Katharine Pan (Ann Arbor, Mich.) finished first in the 100-IM with a time of 1:01.53. Her time was the fifth-fastest in the event as Yale had some swimmers competing in exhibition action in the final event.
