#27 Women's Tennis Upsets 22nd Ranked Vassar

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – In another dominant performance, the MIT women's tennis team backed up their recent national ranking with an 8-1 victory over Vassar College on Saturday afternoon. The Engineers were recently ranked 27th in the country and 9th in the New England Region by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association and have now notched their seventh straight victory, upsetting 22nd ranked Vassar College. It was the first win for MIT over the Brewers since 2003.

MIT took two of the three doubles matches, with the pairs of Candace Wu and Lauren Quisenberry and Julia Hsu and Bianca Dumitrascu each winning 8-2. Lindsay Kantor and Natalie Santiago were able to capture Vassar's only point, winning 8-1 over Melissa Diskin and Katie O'Neal at third doubles.

Katie O'Neal came off the bench and got revenge on Santiago, beating her 6-4, 6-2 at fifth singles, as all six MIT singles players won in straight sets. Wu and Hsu each posted shutouts in their first set, while only Melissa Diskin and Dumitrascu needed seven games to win sets.

The Engineers remain undefeated this spring season and improve to 12-4 on the season. They will host Skidmore College on Sunday afternoon at 1:00 PM. Vassar falls to 13-5 on the season and will travel to Hamilton College to play against Bowdoin on April 24th.
