No. 19 Women's Tennis Earns First-Round Bye in NCAA Tournament

Indianapolis, Ind. (May 6) -- The No. 19 ranked MIT women's tennis team has earned an automatic bid to the 2019 NCAA Division III Women's Tennis Championship and a first-round bye in the regional that will take place at Bowdoin College. The Engineers will take on the winner of SUNY New Paltz and Husson in the second round on Saturday, May 11th.

MIT is making its ninth overall and fourth straight appearance in the NCAA Tournament as the Engineers are fresh off the 2019 NEWMAC Championship following a 5-0 win over Babson College. The championship marked the program's 10th overall and fourth straight.

The Engineers are 10-8 all-time in NCAA Tournament play after earning a berth in the NCAA Elite Eight in Claremont, California in 2018. MIT defeated Tufts University by a 5-3 final after earning earlier victories over John Jay and Colby-Sawyer.

All-time vs. the teams at the Bowdoin Regional, MIT is 1-0 vs. both Colby-Sawyer and SUNY New Paltz and 2-18 vs. Bowdoin while never facing Husson or Nichols previously.
