CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – MIT senior Portia Jones (Queens, N.Y.) was selected as the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Women's Track Athlete of the Week on Monday, following her dominant performance at a meet at Colby College over the weekend. Jones accounted for 28.75 points, winning three individual events, as the Cardinal and Gray took first over Bates College, Colby College, Husson University and the University of Southern Maine.
Jones was a winner in the 100 meters, 200 meters and 100-meter hurdles while also running on the Engineers' 4x100 relay squad that finished in second place. Jones' time of 25.25 seconds in the 200 is currently the ninth-fastest in the country while her 14.46 second time in the 100HH is good for fifth in Division III.
MIT will host its annual Spring Invitational next Saturday, April 21 at the Steinbrenner track while also sending a small contingent of runners to Princeton University for the Larry Ellis Invite.
