CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – After establishing a new NCAA Division III record in the Pole Vault last weekend during the New England Division III Outdoor Track & Field Championship, MIT junior Cimran Virdi (Walnut Creek, Calif.) was tabbed this week's U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) National Athlete of the Week.

Virdi, who shattered the MIT, facility and meet records, registered a clear of 14-0 (4.27m). She entered the meet at 3.77m, but cleared 3.87m, 3.97m, 4.07m and 4.22m before recording the record-setting clear on her second attempt at the 4.27m height. Her first place performance in the event helped the four-ranked MIT women's outdoor track and field team capture its second consecutive New England Division III crown with a first place team score of 180 points.

MIT returns to action on Friday, May 8 as the Engineers compete in the NEICAAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships, which will take place at Steinbrenner Stadium.
