MIT Finishes 11th in Learfield Sports Directors’ Cup Rankings

Women’s Volleyball Receives NEWVA Academic Team Award

Engineers Bested by Springfield in NEWMAC Semifinal
November 06, 2010CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Host and top-seeded Springfield College defeated the MIT women’s volleyball team, 25-23, 25-21, 25-13, in the semifinal round of the New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Championship Tournament. With the loss, the fourth-seeded Engineers closed their season with a record of 21-14. -
Kelly Schulte Earns ESPN Academic All-District Honors
November 04, 2010CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Junior Kelly Schulte represented MIT on the ESPN Academic All-America Women’s Volleyball All-District Second Team as announced by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) on Thursday. She was one of over 80 athletes from Division II, Division III, NAIA, and two-year institutions located in Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New York, Rhode Island, Vermont, Nova Scotia, Quebec, Newfoundland, Prince Edward Island, and New Brunswick vying for a spot on the national ballot. -
Women's Volleyball Blanks WPI, Prepares for NEWMAC Semifinals
November 02, 2010CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – With a 25-15, 25-8, 25-23 victory over WPI in a New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Championship Tournament quarterfinal match on Tuesday, the MIT women’s volleyball team clinched a spot in the semifinal round for the 13th straight season. No. 4-seeded MIT improved to 21-13 on the year and will face host and top seed Springfield College on Saturday, Nov. 6 at 1:00 p.m. No. 5 WPI closed its season with a final record of 22-9. -
MIT Records 15th Straight 20-Win Season

Paul Dill Registers 400th Victory in Sweep of WPI
October 27, 2010CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Already the all-time winningest head coach in the history of the MIT women’s volleyball program, Paul Dill picked up his 400th career victory following a 25-12, 25-17, 25-21 decision over WPI on Tuesday night. The Engineers earned their fourth consecutive NEWMAC win as they improved to 6-2 in league play and 19-12 on the year. -
Engineers Face Top New England Teams at Hall of Fame Tournament
October 25, 2010CAMBRIDGE, Mass. Competing against a trio of regionally-ranked squads, the MIT womens volleyball team emerged with a 1-2 ledger at the Hall of Tournament held this past weekend. The Engineers (18-12) fell to No. 6 Middlebury College, 25-16, 25-23, 25-19, before defeating No. 7 Brandeis University, 25-19, 11-25, 25-23, 25-15. MIT closed the tournament with a 22-25, 25-15, 25-19, 25-21 loss to No. 2 Springfield College. Jenny Li represented the Cardinal and Gray on the All-Tournament Team. -
Women's Volleyball Sweeps Wheaton

In a New England Womens and Mens Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) womens volleyball match, MIT registered a 25-7, 25-10, 25-19 victory over Wheaton College on Tuesday night. The Engineers improved to 17-10 overall and 5-2 in league play while the Lyons saw their ledger fall to 8-16 on the year and 2-5 in the NEWMAC. -
Records Fall as MIT Captures Quad Tournament Title
October 18, 2010CAMBRIDGE, Mass. For the fifth time in six years, the MIT women's volleyball team earned top honors at the MIT Quad Tournament held this past weekend. With MIT, nationally-ranked No. 25 UMass Boston, and Lebanon Valley College each compiling a 2-1 tournament ledger, sets won-lost among the tied teams determined the final rankings. The Engineers came out on top with a 7-3 mark, followed by UMass Boston (7-4), and Lebanon Valley (6-4). Bates College rounded out the field with a fourth-place finish. -
Engineers Defeat Smith, 3-1

Although Smith College won its first set against MIT since a 2005 sweep, the Engineers bounced back by taking the next three en route to a 21-25, 25-19, 25-12, 25-12 decision in a New England Womens and Mens Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) womens volleyball match on Tuesday night. MIT saw its record improve to 14-9 on the year and 4-2 in conference play while the Pioneers dipped to 1-14 overall and 0-6 in the NEWMAC. -
Jenny Li Registers 1000th Kill in Sweep of Babson

Senior captain Jenny Li became just the 10th player in MIT womens volleyball history to record 1,000 career kills on Tuesday night, as she guided the visiting Engineers to a 25-19, 25-13, 25-14 victory over host Babson College in a New England Womens and Mens Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) match at Staake Gymnasium. With the win, MIT improved to 13-9 overall and 3-2 in the conference, while the Beavers fell to 7-9 overall and 1-4 in the league. -
Womens Volleyball Splits at Stevens Invite

The MIT womens volleyball team saw its record move to 12-9 following a 2-2 outing at the Stevens Ducks Invitational hosted by the Stevens Institute of Technology this past weekend. The Engineers fell to SUNY New Paltz (21-25, 21-25, 25-23, 25-5, 15-7) and Clarkson University (26-24, 25-16, 25-12) before defeating Union College (25-18, 28-26, 23-25, 25-15) and Montclair State University (25-9, 25-23, 25-19). The Cardinal and Grays Sharon Hao was selected to the All-Tournament Team. -

In a hard-fought New England Womens and Mens Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) womens volleyball match on Tuesday night, visiting Springfield College emerged with a 23-25, 26-24, 25-22, 25-19 victory over MIT. The loss lowered the Engineers ledger to 10-7 on the year and 2-2 in conference play while the Pride improved to 14-2 overall and 4-0 in the NEWMAC. -
Engineers Place Fifth at MIT Invitational
September 27, 2010CAMBRIDGE, Mass. The womens volleyball team compiled a 3-1 ledger en route to a fifth-place finish at the MIT Invitational held this past weekend. The Engineers (10-6) opened action on Friday with a 25-11, 20-25, 18-25, 25-22, 16-14 win over North Park University before falling to Williams College, 25-19, 25-17, 26-28, 25-15. MIT defeated Vassar College, 27-25, 25-23, 19-25, 25-8, in the first meeting between both programs since 1995, before topping Endicott College, 20-25, 25-12, 25-23, 25-19, for the second time this month. Kelly Schulte represented the Cardinal and Gray on the All-Tournament Team for the first time in her career. -
Tufts University Defeats Wellesley College for MIT Volleyball Invitational Crown
September 25, 2010CAMBRIDGE, Mass. Tufts University became the third team in the history of the MIT Womens Volleyball Invitational to be crowned champions three years in a row following a 25-16, 25-21, 25-21 victory over Wellesley College on Saturday. Tufts swept Williams College, 25-14, 25-19, 25-15, last years runner-up, to advance to the title match while Wellesley defeated Springfield College, 19-25, 29-27, 25-22, 25-23, en route to its first championship match appearance since 1999. -
Wellesley Tops Womens Volleyball, 3-0
September 22, 2010WELLESLEY, Mass. Julia Adams hammered 13 kills on 24 attempts to lead Wellesley College to a 26-24, 25-23, 25-18 victory over NEWMAC rival MIT on Tuesday. The Engineers ledger dipped to 7-5 on the year and 2-1 in conference play while the Blue improved to 4-2 overall and 3-0 in the NEWMAC. -

MIT Ranks Fourth Among All NCAA Institutions in 2010 NCSA Collegiate Power Rankings
September 17, 2010CHICAGO, Ill. – The National Collegiate Scouting Association (NCSA) recently announced its eighth annual Collegiate Power Rankings. Following another tremendous year, the Engineers were listed fourth overall in securing their highest ranking in the history of the report. The NCSA Athletic Recruiting’s Collegiate Power Rankings assess the academic and athletics standards of all NCAA athletic programs across the country. The Power Rankings were developed to help prospective student athletes and their families evaluate the particular strengths of the top colleges and universities at the Division I, II and III levels. -
Tech Takes Mount Holyoke in Three

September 13, 2010CAMBRIDGE, Mass. In the programs first appearance at the Endicott College Invitational, the MIT womens volleyball team finished with a 2-2 record this past weekend. The Engineers fell to Salve Regina University, 25-13, 25-22, 20-25, 22-25, 15-12, and Bowdoin College, 21-25, 21-25, 26-24, 25-22, 15-6, on Friday before defeating Plymouth State University, 25-22, 25-17, 23-25, 25-23, and Emmanuel College, 25-16, 25-17, 25-16, on Saturday. Cecily Joujon-Roche represented the Cardinal and Gray on the All-Tournament Team. -
Women's Volleyball Falls to Western Conn. in Four

In a hard-fought match, Western Connecticut State University emerged with a 25-14, 25-21, 19-25, 25-21, victory over host MIT in a non-conference womens volleyball tilt on Tuesday night. The Colonials remained perfect on the season as they improved to 6-0 while also posting their first win against the Engineers in five meetings. MIT saw its ledger dip to 2-2 in the young season. -
Engineers Go 2-1 at Gordon Invitational
September 06, 2010CAMBRIDGE, Mass. In its first action of the 2010 campaign, the MIT womens volleyball team posted a 2-1 mark at the Gordon College Invitational on Saturday. The Engineers defeated Endicott College, 25-18, 25-12, 24-26, 25-21, before falling to Keene State College, 25-21, 16-25, 25-23, 25-17. The Cardinal and Gray bounced back by sweeping the host Fighting Scots, 25-17, 25-6, 25-15. Sophomore libero Katie Spielbauer represented MIT on the All-Tournament Team for the second year in a row. -
MIT Announces 2010 Fall Webcasting Schedule
August 20, 2010CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - MIT has announced the following dates for its 2010 Fall Webcast schedule. In addition to broadcasting the Engineers' football, men's and women's soccer, women's volleyball and water polo teams, Tech will begin offering webcasts for field hockey for the first time in 2010.
