MIT Posts 2-2 Ledger at Endicott Invitational

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – In the program's first appearance at the Endicott College Invitational, the MIT women's volleyball team finished with a 2-2 record this past weekend. The Engineers fell to Salve Regina University, 25-13, 25-22, 20-25, 22-25, 15-12, and Bowdoin College, 21-25, 21-25, 26-24, 25-22, 15-6, on Friday before defeating Plymouth State University, 25-22, 25-17, 23-25, 25-23, and Emmanuel College, 25-16, 25-17, 25-16, on Saturday. Cecily Joujon-Roche represented the Cardinal and Gray on the All-Tournament Team.

Jenny Li led MIT with 11 kills and three aces in its first meeting with Salve Regina. Rachel Hunt contributed six kills and two blocks as Joujon-Roche posted six kills and four blocks. Kelly Schulte tallied six digs, four kills, and four blocks while Kelsey Cappelle bolstered the attack with five kills. Emma Gargus added two aces as Katie Spielbauer and Kate Kelly collected 23 and 11 digs, respectively. Sharon Hao notched 23 assists and five digs while Alyssa Rothman dished out 10 assists.

Joujon-Roche had a solid outing at the net against Bowdoin as she compiled 18 kills on 30-errorless hitting attempts for a .600 hitting percentage and tacked on three blocks. Schulte recorded 13 kills, a .423 hitting performance, and two blocks while Trinity Leonard totaled 11 kills and 11 digs. Cappelle earned a team-high four aces as Spielbauer led the way with 24 digs. Kelly registered her second double-digit dig performance of the season as she finished with 10. Hao racked up 34 assists and 17 digs while Rothman distributed 11 assists.

Gargus paced the Engineers with 10 kills, a .467 hitting percentage, six blocks, and three aces versus Plymouth State. Li collected 10 digs, nine kills, three blocks, and two aces while Schulte posted nine kills and two blocks. Tatiana Berger chipped in eight kills as Spielbauer notched 10 digs and two aces. Joujon-Roche earned two aces and two blocks while Hao totaled 38 assists, nine digs, and one block.

In the sweep of Emmanuel, Kristine Bunker and Gargus dominated the service line as they registered seven and six aces, respectively. Bunker added four kills and four blocks which were complemented by Gargus's five blocks and four kills. Leonard had 10 kills, six digs, and four blocks while Li and Cappelle added six and four kills. Rothman recorded 27 assists and a team-high nine digs. Spielbauer (eight digs), Jess Fessler (seven digs), and Anna Dikina (six digs) rounded out MIT's defense.
