LEXINGTON, Ky. – The American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) selected four members of the MIT women's volleyball team to its New England All-Region Team as announced by the association on Thursday. Junior Megan Gebhard (Howell, Mich.) and sophomore Alli Davanzo (St. Johns, Fla.) earned their second awards from the AVCA while junior Tori Wuthrich (Grosse Pointe Woods, Mich.) and freshman Abby Bertics (La Jolla, Calif.) were first-time selections.
A two-time NEWMAC all-conference first team pick, Gebhard ranks second in the conference in kills (386) and kills per set (4.06). A steady presence at the net, Davanzo is second in the NEWMAC in hitting percentage (.351), ninth in block assists (60) and 13th in total blocks (64). Rounding out the Engineers' attack, Bertics has tallied 173 kills, a .323 hitting percentage, and 27 blocks from the right side. On the defensive end, Wuthrich ranks fourth in the conference in digs (449) and sixth in digs per set (4.32) as MIT is 26th in the nation in opponent hitting percentage (.110).
The Engineers return to action on Friday, Nov. 13 when they host the New England Regional of the NCAA Tournament. Nationally-ranked No. 24 MIT will take the court against Regis College at 8:00 p.m. with the winner advancing to the regional semifinal at 5:00 p.m. on Saturday in Rockwell Cage.
