Westwood, Mass. (November 2) – A total of six members of the nationally-ranked No. 21 MIT women's volleyball team were named to the NEWMAC Academic All-Conference Team as announced by the league on Thursday. The list is comprised of 40 total student-athletes from the sport of women's volleyball.
Senior tri-captain Lisette Tellez (Miami, Fla.) received her third award while juniors Abby Bertics (La Jolla, Calif.), Christina Liao (Warren, N.J.), and Carly Staub (Palos Verdes Estates, Calif.) were repeat qualifiers. Junior Carly Silvernale (Bellevue, Wash.) along with sophomore Madison Lee (Hillsborough, Calif.) rounded out the Engineers with their first selections to the Academic All-Conference Team.
To be eligible, a student-athlete must have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.5/4.0 scale or a 4.35/5.0 scale after the 2017 spring semester, must have achieved second year academic status at their institution and have been a member of the varsity team for the entire season.
MIT returns to action on Saturday, Nov. 4 as the host and top seed of the NEWMAC Championship Tournament. The Engineers kick off their postseason by playing No. 4 seed Wheaton College in a semifinal match at 1:00 p.m. in Rockwell Cage.
