  • Abby Bertics Earns Google Cloud Academic All-District Volleyball Team Honors

    MIT senior Abby Bertics (La Jolla, Calif.) was voted to the Google Cloud Academic All-District Volleyball Team as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) on Thursday. She will represent the Engineers on the national ballot and will contend for Academic All-America honors to be voted on later this month.

    For the second year in a row, MIT senior Abby Bertics (La Jolla, Calif.) was voted to the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) All-America Third Team as announced by the organization on Tuesday. Her selection marks the fifth year in a row the Engineers have been represented on this list.
  • Women’s Volleyball Receives AVCA and NEWVA Accolades

    The postseason awards continued for the MIT women’s volleyball team with the announcement of the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) and New England Women’s Volleyball Association (NEWVA) regional honors this week. Senior Abby Bertics (La Jolla, Calif.) was recognized by both organizations as she was named the AVCA New England Region Player of the Year and earned a spot on the AVCA All-Region Team in addition to being selected to the NEWVA All-New England First Team. Fellow senior Christina Liao (Warren, N.J.) received her first postseason award courtesy of her placement on the AVCA New England All-Region honorable mention list.
  • Women’s Volleyball Collects Seven NEWMAC Academic All-Conference Awards

    Seven members of the MIT women’s volleyball team were named to the NEWMAC Academic All-Conference Team as announced by the league on Thursday. The list is comprised of 45 total student-athletes from the sport of women’s volleyball.
  • No. 2 Women's Volleyball Falls to No. 3 Babson, 3-1, in NEWMAC Semifinals

    No. 3 seeded Babson College battled No. 2 MIT for a 25-23, 15-25, 25-22, 25-18 victory in the semifinals of the NEWMAC Women’s Volleyball Championship Tournament on Thursday night. The Beavers advanced to the title match for the first time since 2015, when they won their second conference title in a row.
  • No. 2 Women’s Volleyball Sweeps No. 7 Wheaton in NEWMAC Tournament Quarterfinals

    No. 2 seeded MIT defeated No. 7 Wheaton College, 25-11, 28-26, 25-13, in the quarterfinals of the NEWMAC Women’s Volleyball Championship Tournament on Tuesday night. With the win, the Engineers secured a spot in the conference tournament semifinals for the 30th consecutive season.
  • No. 25 Women’s Volleyball Defeats WPI, 3-1, on Senior Day

    In the NEWMAC women’s volleyball regular-season finale for both teams, nationally-ranked No. 25 MIT defeated WPI, 27-29, 25-16, 25-22, 25-13, on Saturday afternoon. In the victory, MIT senior Carly Silvernale (Bellevue, Wash.) became the 16th player in program history to reach 1,000 digs while the team amassed 17 blocks, just one shy of tying the Institute record for blocks in a match.
  • No. 25 Engineers Defeat Emerson in Four Sets

    After falling in the first set, nationally-ranked No. 25 MIT went on to win the next three, recording a 23-25, 25-14, 25-18, 25-16 victory over Emerson College in NEWMAC women’s volleyball action on Tuesday night. Senior Abby Bertics (La Jolla, Calif.) amassed 29 kills, a .414 hitting effort, seven digs, and three blocks for the Engineers.
  • No. 21 MIT Falls to Middlebury and Tufts on Day 2 of the New England Challenge

    The nationally-ranked No. 21 MIT women’s volleyball team fell to Middlebury College, 25-19, 19-25, 25-15, 25-19, and Tufts University, 23-25, 25-15, 25-19, 25-20, in Saturday’s finale of the New England Challenge. Senior Carly Silvernale (Bellvue, Wash.) represented the Engineers on the All-Tournament Team.

    In a closely played women’s volleyball match that featured 23 ties and eight lead changes, nationally-ranked No. 21 MIT battled Williams College for a 25-22, 22-25, 25-20, 25-22 victory in the opening match of the New England Challenge on Friday night. Senior Abby Bertics (La Jolla, Calif.) tallied a match-high 23 kills to go along with 10 digs and three blocks for the Engineers.

  • Women’s Volleyball Sweeps Its Way to MIT Quad Tournament Title, Records 26th Consecutive 20-Win Season

    For the 10th time in tournament history, the MIT women’s volleyball team captured the MIT Quad Tournament title after sweeping Utica College (25-11, 25-14, 25-23) and Hunter College (25-17, 25-14, 25-16) on Saturday afternoon. Senior Christina Liao (Warren, N.J.) was named the Tournament MVP while junior Alexis Groark (Elwood, N.J.) represented the Engineers on the All-Tournament Team. In addition, MIT recorded its 26th straight 20-win season as head coach Paul Dill’s squads have reached this mark every year during his 23-year tenure.
  • Balanced Performance Powers No. 21 MIT in Sweep of King’s

    In the first meeting between both teams since 2006, nationally-ranked No. 21 MIT defeated King’s College, 25-15, 25-19, 25-21, to open the MIT Women’s Volleyball Quad Tournament on Friday night. Playing in only the third set, freshman Nikasha Patel (Paradise Valley, Ariz.) generated a match-high nine kills and hit .500 for the Engineers.
  • Bertics Breaks Record as No. 21 Women’s Volleyball Sweeps Clark

    After a tight battle in the opening frame, the nationally-ranked No. 21 MIT women’s volleyball team went on to defeat Clark University, 25-21, 25-9, 25-19, in NEWMAC action on Tuesday night. Senior Abby Bertics (La Jolla, Calif.) led all players with 28 kills, breaking the Institute record for kills in a three-set match, which was previously 22 and set by Barden Cleeland ’09 against Williams College in 2006.

    In non-conference women’s volleyball action, nationally-ranked No. 22 MIT defeated Emmanuel College, 25-13, 25-20, 25-11, on Thursday night. Freshman Nikasha Patel (Paradise Valley, Ariz.) led all players with 16 kills while hitting .323 for the Engineers.

Freshman Hannah Grupe (Oakwood, Ohio) led the Engineers’ balanced attack with eight kills while hitting .538 and recording two blocks.

    After losing the opening set, nationally-ranked No. 22 MIT came back to win the next three and record a 22-25, 25-23, 25-16, 25-21 victory over Wheaton College in NEWMAC women’s volleyball action on Tuesday night. Senior Abby Bertics (La Jolla, Calif.) powered the Engineers with a match-high 26 kills and a career-high 18 digs while hitting .389.

    The nationally-ranked No. 22 MIT women’s volleyball team improved to 2-1 in the NEWMAC following a 26-24, 15-25, 25-15, 25-16 victory over conference foe U.S. Coast Guard Academy and saw its overall record raise to 12-2 on the year after defeating Manhattanville College (25-13, 25-17, 25-15) on Saturday afternoon.

    In the NEWMAC women’s volleyball opener for both teams, Springfield College emerged with a 25-22, 25-20, 18-25, 30-28 victory over nationally-ranked No. 18 MIT on Tuesday night. Senior Abby Bertics (La Jolla, Calif.) led all players with 24 kills to go along with a .360 hitting performance, 10 digs, and three blocks.
  • No. 17 Women’s Volleyball Goes Undefeated at MIT Invitational

    Due to tiebreakers, the nationally-ranked No. 17 MIT women’s volleyball team finished third at the MIT Invitational on Saturday. One of four teams that went 3-0 during the weekend and also had a 9-1 sets won-lost record, the Engineers’ point differential of +67 resulted in their third-place finish. Senior Abby Bertics (La Jolla, Calif.) represented the Cardinal and Gray on the All-Tournament Team.
  • Dill Records 600th Win, Bertics Surpasses 1,000 Kills as No. 17 Women’s Volleyball Sweeps Roger Williams on Opening Day of MIT Invitational

    The nationally-ranked No. 17 MIT women’s volleyball team opened the first day of the MIT Invitational by sweeping Roger Williams University, 25-15, 25-19, 25-16, on Friday. In his 23rd season at the helm, head coach Paul Dill picked up his 600th win with the Engineers. In addition, senior Abby Bertics (La Jolla, Calif.) became the 12th player in program history to reach the 1,000-kill mark.

    The nationally-ranked No. 17 MIT women’s volleyball improved team to 5-0 on the season following a 25-11, 25-9, 25-11 victory over Gordon College on Wednesday night.
