Cambridge, Mass. (August 27) – The MIT women's volleyball team has announced its incoming recruiting class for the 2018 season as six student-athletes join the program, which will be under the direction of reigning NEWMAC Coach of the Year Paul Dill.
"We are very excited to welcome what could be one of our strongest recruiting classes into our MIT volleyball family, " said Dill. "With their great skill level and get after it, fun-loving enthusiasm, we look to pick up right where we left off in 2017."
The Engineers' new additions include Annie Bryan (Kirkwood, Mo.), Julia Caravias (Bloomfield Hills, Mich.), Hannah Collins (Sunnyvale, Calif.), Hannah Grupe (Oakwood, Ohio), Nikasha Patel (Paradise Valley, Ariz.), and Margaret Wang (Rockville, Md.).
Bryan was a district champion, an All-District and All-Conference selection, and a three-time varsity letterwinner at Kirkwood High School. She was also a captain of H2 Saint Louis and Rockwood Thunder.
A captain at Bloomfield Hills High School, Caravias was a two-time MIVCA All-Region and MIVCA All-League honorable mention selection in addition to being tabbed for OAA All-County honorable mention accolades. She was a four-time varsity letterwinner, received 2017 Varsity MVP honors, and earned the BHHS Scholar-Athlete Award. Caravias also played for Michigan Elite Volleyball Academy.
Collins was a captain, three-time varsity letterwinner, and a four-time Scholar-Athlete Award recipient at Homestead High School. Playing for Red Rock Volleyball Club, she qualified in the USA Division for the 2018 GJNC 18-U and was the runner-up at the 2018 Golden State qualifier.
Competing for Oakwood High School, Grupe was a captain, a two-time All-League and All-District honoree, and a three-time varsity letterwinner. She received the Sportsmanship Award, the Most Valuable Player Award, the Senior Academic All-Star Award, and was a three-time Scholar-Athlete Award winner. Grupe also played with Air City Chicks and Dayton Juniors, collecting the SMACK Power Series Tournament and the Central Zone Invitational 18 Club championships.
Patel was a co-captain, a two-time Division 2A All-Region selection, and a three-time AIA honorable mention pick at Phoenix Country Day School. She was a four-time varsity letterwinner and the recipient of the PCDS MVP and Coaches Award. Playing for Aspire, the team ranked first in Arizona in 2015 and finished 15th in the 2015 GJNC Open Division. As a member of AZ Revolution, the squad ranked fourth in Arizona and finished 10th in the GJNC American Division. Patel also played the 2018 season with Club One.
Wang was an All-County honoree and an MVP for Montgomery Blair High School. As a member of Metro VBC, she finished third at nationals, first in the region, and 13th in Open.
