Westwood, Mass. (November 1) – Seven members of the MIT women's volleyball team were named to the NEWMAC Academic All-Conference Team as announced by the league on Thursday. The list is comprised of 45 total student-athletes from the sport of women's volleyball.
Seniors Abby Bertics (La Jolla, Calif.), Christina Liao (Warren, N.J.), and Carly Staub (Palos Verdes Estates, Calif.) received their third award while senior Carly Silvernale (Bellevue, Wash.) and junior Madison Lee (Hillsborough, Calif.) were repeat qualifiers. Junior Shea Landeene (Phoenix, Ariz.) and sophomore Francesca Macchiavello (Lexington, Ky.) rounded out the Engineers with their first selections to the Academic All-Conference Team.
To be eligible, a student-athlete must have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.5/4.0 scale or a 4.35/5.0 scale after the 2018 spring semester, must have achieved second year academic status at their institution and have been a member of the varsity team for the entire season.
MIT, the No. 2 seed in the NEWMAC Championship Tournament, returns to action tonight when it hosts No. 3 Babson College at 7:00 p.m. in a semifinal match in Rockwell Cage.
