MIT Finishes Sixth at Hall of Fame Tournament

CAMBRIDGE, MASS. - This past weekend MIT competed in the Hall of Fame Tournament, finishing sixth out of 16 teams. The Engineers (21-8) opened the weekend by sweeping Bowdoin College, 30-24, 31-29, 30-23, before falling to Springfield Colege, 30-26, 30-16, 30-28. On Saturday, Tech defeated Wellesley College, 30-26, 30-26, 30-24, and then lost to Smith College, 30-19, 28-30, 30-28, 26-30, 15-11. Frances Rogoz represented MIT on the All-Tournament Team.

Rose Zhong and Rogoz paced the Engineers' offense against Bowdoin, tallying 11 kills apiece. Caroline Jordan had a solid all-around performance, totaling nine kills, 13 digs, one solo block and five assisted blocks. Arlis Reynolds registered a team-high 16 digs and had three aces. Setter Amanda Morris dished out 38 assists and posted two solo blocks.

Reynolds earned a double-double in MIT's loss to Springfield, finishing with 11 kills and 10 digs. Carrie Buchanan led Tech's defense with 22 digs while Jordan had 11. Briana Stephenson totaled one solo and five assisted blocks while Morris had 28 assists and 14 digs.

Against Wellesley, Rogoz registered 10 kills while Alexandra Huston-Carico and Jordan each added eight of their own. Reynolds tallied four aces and 13 digs while Buchanan contributed 12 digs. Jordan also added 10 digs while Morris tallied 35 assists.

The Engineers closed the weekend with a tough five-game loss to Smith. Caroline Jordan and Arlis Reynolds both earned double-doubles with Jordan posting 19 kills and 12 digs while Reynolds notched 14 kills and 19 digs. Zhong had 12 kills as Rogoz added 12. On the defensive end, Amanda Morris, Caroline Jordan, and Briana Stephenson each totaled four assisted blocks. Buchanan finished with 16 digs while Lisa Rossi contributed 13. Morris dished out 63 assists and had 12 digs.
