Boston, Mass. (October 18) -- MIT freshman cross country runner Megan McCandless (Livermore, Calif.) has been named as the NEWMAC Women's Cross Country Runner of the Week for her performance at the Border Battle on Saturday at Rowan University. This marks the second straight and third overall NEWMAC weekly honor for McCandless.
McCandless continued her rookie success as the led the No. 2 ranked Engineers to a runner-up team finish as she finished third overall out of 386 runners. Finishing in a time of 20:44.8, she averaged 5:34 per mile over the 6K course.
MIT is back in action on Saturday, October 29th as the Engineers travel to Smith College in Northampton, Mass. for the NEWMAC Championship. The Engineers enter the meet as the nine-time defending conference champions. The women's race begins at 12:15 p.m.
